 Beckham is EIGHT!!

Beckham has been looking forward to being eight for years now, and now here we are and he's eight and baptized! Beckham is such a joy and light in our family, we love him so much and are so grateful for him. He has a natural happiness about him, he loves to get things done fast, he loves to help cook, he loves to cuddle our little ones, and when he lets himself (or we tell him he has to) calm down he really loves to read and draw. When he draws he loves to draw cars and race tracks or silly pictures and then he likes to hang them on the wall. He likes to do art class with me sometimes and he does an awesome job! He also started and learned to play soccer this last spring and he did amazing, he improved so much just in one season. He rode his first roller coaster when we went to Lagoon in early May and he was so brave! He took a karate class for a semester in the fall and loved it, and this spring he has been doing tumbling and also loves it. He also started Level 3 in Language Arts several months ago and is doing so good. He loves the color orange, it's been his favorite color for as long as I can remember, but he has started saying in the last few months that red is now his favorite color. He loves to build LEGO's and builds a lot of cars and other creations, he got an art set for his birthday and a lot of times I'll find him in his room before bed drawing or using his markers in his art book. Oh, and he loves to take silly pictures, stop-motion or slow-motion videos of LEGO's and Hot Wheels. Generally, Beckham is very easy-going and easy to get along with, he is kind and happy, he is also very high energy and very "rough-and-tumble," haha. When he is feeling grumpy he can be a handful and very stubborn, but we all have days like that, haha. He is also very confident and is doesn't really care what other people think. He does best when Jeremy and I are very consistent with our rules and discipline. He loves to race Hot Wheels and I consistently see them flying through the air, he also loves to build big train tracks (but does get very frustrated when the little ones knock them over, which is understandable, lol). He got some huge LEGO sets for his birthday and he can do them on his own, they are 16+ sets. He also enjoys playing video games on the Switch with his brothers (Super Mario 3D World is one he got for his birthday), he has also been having fun with Roblox this last year.

He asked for a Roblox-themed birthday party, so we found some fun decorations and he even got some Roblox toys! He wanted chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast, and then Beckham, Bridger, and Benson played some video games, then for lunch we had Papa Murphy's pizza. That afternoon Daddy took him to the store (one of our traditions on their birthdays) and chose a Paw Patrol and a MicroMachine Carwash and a blue McLaren Hot Wheels car and chose out some mint chocolate chip Tillamook ice cream to go with his cake. He chose lasagna for his birthday dinner and he chose Grandma Brown's chocolate cake with white frosting with a Roblox design on top for his birthday cake. And as a plus, he didn't have to do any school OR chores (another tradition we have). It was a fun day and we loved celebrating Beckham!

Here are some more pictures of Beckham from the last year!

He loved petting the chicks at the Washington County Fair.

Fresh haircut!

His plant is still alive over a year later!

  • He is 4'8" and weighs about 84 pounds. So he's in the 98th percentile for height and 96th percentile for weight.
  • His nicknames are Mr. Beck, Beckster, and Beck. I also call him Sweetie and Honey a lot.
  • He LOVES cars, especially Camaro's, just like Grandpa Brown. He draws a LOT of pictures of cars and races and he's really good at it.
  • He does his school work really fast most of the time, he just busts it out so he can play! He does Language Arts, Life of Fred, Art (occasionally), Spanish (live classes) twice per week, Coding, Typing, Handwriting, History, and Science.
  • His daily chores are usually helping put dishes away in the morning and after dinner he either washes the table or cleans up the toys in the living area. He also helps gather laundry on Saturdays and he folds all his own clean clothes and puts them away.
  • His favorite foods are fruit of pretty much every kind (apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, blueberries, strawberries, mango, pineapple, etc.), he really likes carrots, he likes Annie's noodles, pizza, spaghetti, and lasagna. He isn't very picky, he will sometimes complain about a certain meal, but usually he just eats what I give him. He absolutely does NOT like avocado and it is one of the things he just won't eat, he also doesn't like plain celery (but he loves ants on a log, lol). He says he doesn't like tomatoes, but his favorite foods are all red sauce, haha.
  • He is very patient with the Ander and Roz, it's so sweet.
  • He loves to cuddle, especially at night before bed when he has settled down. He likes for me to "cooch" (a word he learned from Benson, lol) his arms and trace his face and then "boop" his nose before I leave.
  • He learns very fast and is an excellent reader. He read the entire Happy Hollisters series (over 30 chapter books) this past year, and also read several from The Good & The Beautiful library and loved them. He read The Magic Treehouse series the year before and loved that, as well. Once he finds a good book, he flies through it. He also enjoys "fact" books like The Why Book and another one we have on machines.
  • He and Benson really love their stuffed animals. He has his two green dinos named Green Apple and Green Celery from when he was a baby, then he got a small red dino last year that he named "Red Cherry." Then, he got a small cream and brown panda bear that he named "Apricot." He sleeps with all of them every night and plays with them all the time. He also loves his "coconut" blanket (his fleece blanket) and he still sleeps with his baseball silk-trimmed blanket Grandma Brown made for him when he was a baby. It's cute. :)
  • For over a year he told me he wanted to own a pizza restaurant, but in the last several months he started saying he wanted to be both a pizza shop owner AND an engineer, and now in the last couple months he has told me he wants to be an engineer. So, that gradually transitioned, although he still tells me it would be fun to own a pizza shop. I told him maybe he could find a way to do both!
  • Like I said above, he is really liking soccer! He learned the game this last season and has already improved SO much. He just finished a week long soccer camp that was 3 hours per day and did awesome!
  • He likes to keep everything. Like, everything. All of our kids do this. We were cleaning up his dresser to get ready to move and I found rock collections, a box with little separated compartments where he had started a Hot Wheels storage collection, I found empty Hot Wheels boxes (aka trash), bread tags, almond milk tabs that you pull off the new containers to be able to pour the milk, valentines, and the list goes on. He had his wood treasure box Grandma Brown gave him full, he had another little box full, and another one. And all of this was piled on his dresser, lol. And, while I was deep cleaning the van a couple months ago I found a full on rock collection in the compartment next to his carseat! Oh, and sticker collections, he loves to put stickers on his cups. He's so funny, it's so cute.

He's always had a very sweet, special relationship with Roz. From the time he found out I was pregnant with her he would talk to her in my belly and feel her kicks, and every night he was sure to ask where her head was and then he would talk right there so she could hear him and would talk so sweetly to her and put his hand on my belly to feel her goodnight kicks and punches. It makes me cry thinking about it because it's just so sweet.

This is at the Easter car show in Hurricane, he LOVED the Camaros!

We had his baptism May 29th, at 10 AM. He helped me choose all the people to participate in his program and chose CTR cookies to serve for dessert afterward. He has been looking forward to his baptism for years now, and over the last several weeks we have been talking about the covenants and practicing being baptized. At night I would let him read stories in the children's section of the church app about baptism and we reviewed the covenants every night. He had his bishop interview last Sunday and was able to tell the bishop exactly what he was promising to do and what Heavenly Father promises in return, I am so proud of him!

Beckham and Grandpa Brown picked up his cookies at Muddy Bees and then headed over to the stake center to let Beckham get changed. Then the rest of us arrived around 9:30 and Jeremy changed while we got things set up. We got pictures of Beckham with Jeremy and I and then we started. Grandma gave a wonderful talk on baptism with three little bears and then Beckham and Jeremy entered the font for his baptism and all the kids sat on the floor in front to watch. While they changed everyone wrote their testimonies on cards to put in an album for him to keep. When he and Jeremy were dressed and joined us again I gave a talk on the Holy Ghost and I had objects like a flashlight, soap, and a picture of the Savior (among other things) to help him remember the Holy Ghost and how it can help him.

After we were finished and closed with a song and prayer, we all headed outside to the pavilion and had cookies, chatted, and took pictures. Then, we went back to Grandma and Grandpa Brown's house and he opened his baptism gifts.

His new scriptures!! :)

His confirmation blessing:

"Beckham Curt Jarvis, by the authority of the Melchizedek Priesthood, we lay our hands upon your head and confirm you a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and say unto you, receive the Holy Ghost. Beckham, we are so grateful that you are willing to follow the Lord, and we bless you that you can have the strength to follow Him throughout your life, that you may be a missionary, an example of light and truth to those that are searching for it. We bless you with good health and strength, that you may be able to accomplish your work upon the earth, and that you may be led by the Holy Ghost that you have just received and learn how to listen to it and follow it. Bless you with protection against evil and temptation, that you may be able to make right choices and follow the path that the Savior has laid for you as an example. We bless you that you can know the Lord, and love Him, and serve Him with all your might, mind, and strength. We bless you that you may be able to have the gift of wisdom to discern between light and darkness, between truth and error, throughout your life. We leave these blessings upon you, and any other blessing the Lord sees fit at this time, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen."

Jeremy confirmed him and invited Grandpa Brown, Uncle Cade, and Grandpa Jarvis to be in the circle. Uncle Jarom and our family friend, Ben Scow, were also invited, but couldn't make it.

We had a really beautiful morning celebrating with Beckham and we are so grateful. He felt so special and loved it so much, he kept cuddling up into me and I just kept hugging him all morning. I am so happy for him and so proud of him. We love him so much!!
